Chess Master Pro

I put Stockfish 16 in a browser. It has puzzles, ratings, and fifty-five board themes. I couldn't stop adding things.

About This Game

I wanted to play real chess in a browser. Not toy chess. Real chess. Every site I tried was missing something. Bad engine. No puzzles. No way to know if you're getting better. So I built my own. It took a long time.

The engine is Stockfish 16. That's one of the strongest chess engines in the world. It runs right in your browser. No download. No install. Just chess. The hard part was the difficulty system. I used something called Glicko-2. That's just a math formula that watches how you play and figures out how good you are. Then it adjusts the engine to match. Ten levels, from total beginner to full strength. But the adaptive mode is the one I'm proud of. It finds your level. When you get better, it gets harder. You'll feel it.

Then I fell into the puzzle rabbit hole. Each puzzle gives you a position. You find the best move. Get it right, your rating goes up. Get it wrong, it goes down. They're sorted by theme: forks, pins, endgame stuff. I'd say the puzzles are where I really found my niche. Or my knight. Sorry. Your puzzle rating is separate from your game rating. I think that matters. Playing a full game and solving a tricky position are different skills. Oh, and there are medals. Gold, silver, bronze. I like medals. Not sorry.

Here's where I definitely went overboard. Fifty-five board themes. Six piece styles. You can export your games as PGN files. Import famous games. There's a whole stats page with charts. Win rates. Opening trends. Something called centipawn loss, which is a nerdy way to measure how many mistakes you made. The whole thing has this fancy baroque look with crowns and gold trim. I added that last. I think it makes every game feel like an event. Even the ones I lose. Which is most of them.

Months. I spent months on the rating system alone. I really hope you can tell.
